Why Rest is a Requirement
Rest isn’t a luxury—it’s the fuel that keeps you performing at your best.
Be your best inside and out with Be Well Weekly, your resource for actionable wellness tips, tools and information.
When was the last time you truly rested? Not “I’ll just check my email real quick” rested. Not “I’m watching TV while folding laundry” rested. I mean unplugged, slowed down, and gave yourself permission to do nothing.
Here’s the truth: rest isn’t a luxury—it’s a requirement for physical health, mental clarity, and long-term productivity. Without it, you’re running on fumes, more likely to make mistakes, burn out, and struggle with focus. Even high-performing athletes schedule rest days because that’s when muscles repair and strength is built. The same applies to your mind and spirit.
🛌Why Rest Matters
Recharge your brain: Downtime allows your mind to process, problem-solve, and get creative.
Boost physical health: Quality rest reduces stress hormones, lowers blood pressure, and supports your immune system.
Prevent burnout: You can’t sustain high output without recovery. Eventually, your body (and your motivation) will demand a break—on its terms, not yours.
💡How to Rest (and Actually Mean It)
Take Your PTO. You’ve earned it—it’s part of your compensation package. Not using it is essentially giving money back to your employer.
Create tech boundaries. Put your out-of-office message up and truly step away from email, Slack, or work calls.
Build mini-rest breaks into your day. A 10-minute walk, deep breathing session, or stretching can reset your energy in surprising ways.
Plan real downtime. Whether it’s an afternoon nap or a long weekend, protect that time fiercely.
🏖️Why Staycations Count
You don’t need a plane ticket to recharge. In fact, staying home can be more restorative—you skip travel stress, save money, and can design your days exactly how you like. Think local adventures, sleeping in, reading, or finally trying that hobby you’ve been putting off.
The bottom line: Rest is fuel. Without it, you’re running on empty—and that’s not sustainable. How often do you let your phone battery go to 0%?
Take the time. Protect the time. And remember: the world won’t fall apart while you do.

💗Shout to All the Parents
‘Tis the season…Whether this is your first drop off or your last to college, the armed services or another path your child has chosen, know that you’re not alone. This week we take my youngest to JMU to start her freshman year. I know the goal is to create responsible, self-sustaining adults, but it doesn’t mean it’s easy. Sending virtual hugs to you all! 🤗
Thank you for reading all the way to the end. I appreciate you. 💕
Much love and gratitude,

P.S. Did you miss me last week? I was on vacation with the family at Cape May and wanted to stay in that tech-free flow. I’m trying to practice what I preach. 😉
