When Anxiety Hits Hard (And How to Handle It)
Feel the fear...and move through it anyway
Be your best inside and out with Be Well Weekly, your resource for actionable wellness tips, tools and information.
Anxiety can be gripping.
It shows up uninvited, twists your stomach in knots, and convinces you that everything’s about to fall apart—even when it’s not.
Recently, I started a new job and had to coordinate a large global town hall. Now, I’ve done dozens of these events in the past, but this time felt different: new company, new processes, new executive. My anxiety shot through the roof. Just thinking about the event made me break into a sweat. My heart would race, and I felt like I couldn’t breathe.
Here’s what helped me move through it:
✨ I acknowledged my anxiety instead of pushing it away. Pretending it’s not there only makes it louder.
✨ I leaned on my tools:
Affirmations: “I am enough. I am capable. I know how to do this.”
Breathwork: Slowing down my breath to slow down my mind.
Tapping: EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) to calm my nervous system.
✨ I stayed grounded in what is true. I do know how to run a town hall. I have done this before. The facts were more powerful than my fears.
And guess what? The event went off without a hitch. Everything flowed smoothly. I was proud of how it turned out—and honestly, a little mad at how much time and energy I let anxiety steal from me.
Here’s what I want to leave you with this week:
💡 Be Well Tip:
Have a “go-to” anxiety toolkit ready. Whether it’s breathwork, movement, journaling, or talking to a trusted friend—find what calms your nervous system and helps you feel steady. Practice it before you’re in the storm, so it’s there when you need it most.
Anxiety might show up. But it doesn’t have to take over.
